Apollo Cleaning is a specialist cleaning company based in Norwich (in the UK). We have been established since 1991 and undertake all types of domestic and commercial office cleaning. The following are some questions that we are often asked... |

| Why is it necessary to clean carpets? | |||||||||||
Carpets have frequently been used as an alternative to hard floors. Reasons for this include the feel, the appearance and, predominantly, the reduced maintenance. But wall to wall carpets are often treated with less respect. Hard floors show dirt, so they must be swept, mopped or buffed weekly or even daily. Carpets on the other hand do not receive the same care. Maintenance is regarded as a quick vacuum, which only picks up loose soil particles on the surface of the carpet, which although essential in carpet care does not clean deep down into the fibres. Regular cleaning is important to prolong the life and look of the carpet. |

| What's the best way to clean carpets? | |||||||||||
The most common type of clean is the water extraction system sometimes mistakenly called steam cleaning. This is where a detergent is sprayed on the carpet and agitated in, usually with a machine, this loosens the embedded dirt and stains, while still damp a second machine sprays a rinse into the carpet and almost immediately vacuums the water and all the dirt into a recovery tank in the machine. The carpet will be left damp which depending on the fibres etc takes 2-12 hours to dry. There are many other ways to clean carpets including dry cleaning with powders but the wet method in our opinion seems to give the best results. |

| Do carpets get dirty quicker after cleaning? | |||||||||||
This is the most common question people ask, and to answer correctly, yes they can if the wrong chemicals are used. The carpet should be pre-sprayed with special detergents, which are slightly alkaline then rinsed out with an acidic neutraliser to avoid leaving the carpet sticky, which in turn will attract the dirt quicker. Carpet cleaners know this but the unsuspecting public do not and many clean their own soft furnishings with a home or hired machine which is supplied with a high alkaline detergent that cleans but does not rinse. |
